5 things to do in Leipzig

Leipzig is a German city located in the Federal State of Saxony. It is nestled on the southern end of the North German Plain at the confluence of White Elster, Pleisse, and Parthe rivers. Just by description, you would know that it is a beautiful city that features lush green vegetation, forests and parks - and indeed it is. Below are some of the things you can do at the city.

1. Visit the Leipzig Zoo

For a glance at African animals in the heart of a German city, visit this zoo. The kids will be especially giddy with excitement at the sight of the African giraffe, lion or Chimpanzee. This is a sight they only see on National Geographic and seeing it in real life will be an experience that will instantly make you a 'super dad/mom'.

2. Bach Museum

If you love classical music, like me, you would not miss this museum for anything. It is the kind of place that inspires you to practice more on your piano or to write more songs/poems. Get to see all the works of the classical music guru, Bach and your appreciation of music will go to a higher plane.

3. Make Friends at the Market Square as you sip from a bottle of water

This is perhaps the most visited. It is a where tourists get back their sense of geography as well as rest as they think of the next place to explore. Here, you will make friends with other tourists visiting the place. Trust me; there is no better experience than making friends out of total strangers in a foreign country.

4. Take a walk at Leipzig Botanical Garden

Take you iPod, wear your track suits and hit the jogging paths of Leipzig Botanical Gardens. Alternatively, you can arrange to have a romantic picnic or walk on the grounds of the beautiful garden. While at it, make sure you ask the passersby to capture your picture with the gardens as the backdrop.

5. Völkerschlachtdenkmal

Also referred to as the Monument of the Battle of the Nations, this landmark monument was erected in Leipzig in 1913 to commemorate a century after victory over Napoleon.

If you are looking for a place to sightsee, there is no better city in Germany than Leipzig. It is certainly a historical city if the number of monuments and ancient landmarks are anything to go by.
